It has been many years of searching and travelling to different parts of Tamil Nadu that three of us have been trying to have a glimpse of the secretive science of ‘Tamil Varmam / Marma Chikitsa’ and to learn it as much possible. But we had confronted lot of obstacles to learn it as much we could and we still try to learn more.

And we are very sure that there are many such doctors like us having the same story and that is precisely why we decided to share our thoughts about the topic.

There are lot of clinical experiences that we have documented by video shooting which we shall be happy to share by website links in the near future.Many of them are getting uploaded gradually.

Uniqueness about the training on science of varmam we learned from Arts Research Institute (shortly, ARI), Coimbatore : Reveals the deeply secretive science of varmam – that was learned and taught only by marma vaidyans in Kerala and Tamil Nadu to which the college academy had no access or very limited access.

There are many clinical conditions where we can realise that only with the help varmam points we make an impact! This was unbelievable for us earlier, but we realised it on many occasions.

The techniques taught are very every effective in over 55 kinds of ailment to help speedy recovery.

The techniques immensely complement the effects of Ayurveda therapies and sometimes even surpass Ayurveda therapies or medicines in wide range of diseases.

For majority of the cases (more than 80%), no medicine is used. It is all about fingers used for manipulations.

Time of involvement for one patient is less than 5 minutes in one session.

What do you learn / gain from the 3 days training?

Learn with clarity about the special marma points (around 100 points) in 3 days. The day long classes will have videos, notes and direct man to man point feeling done by volunteers of the institute.

Learn with clarity about the practical manipulations on these varmam points to cure diseases. Every participant will be able to do it on other participant under the supervision of the volunteers of the institute.

Learn with clarity about varmam techniques (around 10 types) that can be used to revive a person who is unconscious after an injury just using fingers only (No medicines).

Learn with clarity about the treatment protocols like package / line of treatments to cure day-to-day ailments such as, migraine, sinusitis, sciatica, and etc.

It is worthwhile to note that ARI is performing an enormous medico social service to the society as we realised firsthand the following about Arts Research Institute (ARI), Coimbatore , is a registered public charitable trust. Since 2005, the trust provides cost effective varmam treatment for wide variety of ailments across their 18 therapy centres.

For majority of the patients, cures happen without any medicines.

Across all their centres, they treat about 2,250 patients per month (including new and follow up).

Their head office in Coimbatore alone receives daily OPD of about 250 patients.
The trust collects donation of just Rs.300/- (Rupees Two Hundred fifty Only) for one month treatment, which includes one consultation visit with the doctors and eight visits of varmam tuning.

ARI functions under the technical guidance of Dr.N.Shunmugom, Ph.D. (Tamil), Varmam Researcher & Honorary Advisor, ARI, who has more than 30 years of experience in varmam and has learnt from nearly 100 varmam asans. He has trained more than 500 physicians working in Tamil Nadu Government Hospitals and PHC, based on invitation from Directorate of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy.
